When the bicycle is moving, the dynamo (6) supplies two thirds of its power to the front lamp (7), and one third to the re-chargeable Nickel Cadmium battery (10) via a full-wave bridge rectifier (8) and a current limiting resistance (11). Connected across the bridge output is a LED (9) which is set into the rear reflector.S If the dynamo stops turning, the LED continues to emit light, due to current from the battery delivered via the resistor. A reverse polarity diode (12) in parallel with the resistor (11) prevents current flowing from the battery to the dynamo and front lamp.
