In a self-tapping threaded insert with an internal and an external thread as well as a chamfer at the insert end, cutting bores are provided which extend radially into the area of the chamfer. So that the cutting edges of these cutting bores cut out the finest possible chips from the wall of a smooth receiving bore into which the threaded insert is screwed, which chips are not to reach the internal thread, five cutting bores are provided which are each designed as a blind bore.
