In the present invention, a method and an apparatus for constructing an industrial installation, in particular an installation with a large number of pipelines of small to medium cross-section, in accordance with the modular construction principle are described. For this purpose, individual components are completely prefabricated and provided with pipework in parallelepipedal frameworks (10), the conduits of one component, which have to be connected to other components during assembly, and operating and monitoring elements being guided to the face of the framework. At the construction site, the prefabricated components, which have approximately the internal dimensions of containers, are inserted into a frame construction intended for them with corresponding cells (1) and joined to one another at the faces. The individual building blocks (10) have on the underside rollers (11) which can roll on the lower longitudinal struts (2) of each cell, designed in the manner of rails.
