<p>A welding gun and transformer having windings with reduced resistance and reactance, thus drawing less current, and improved means to remove heat. The system transformer has substantially reduced weight and may be operated at high duty cycles and in a welding gun performing a large number of welds per hour. The transformer primary is formed with a coiled hollow tube (42, 43, 44, 45, 112, 114, 116, 118, 120, 122) and coolant is flowed through the coil to directly cool the transformer. The secondary is formed with plate-like members (63, 64, 65, 66, 67, 130, 132, 134, 136, 138, 158) physically adjacent the primary coil so that heat from the secondary is quickly dissipated through the primary. </p> |
