Air-conditioning systems for motor vehicles, in particular for passenger cars, are composed essentially of a housing in which a heating element, an evaporating element, a blower and means for influencing the air stream which acts on the heating element are arranged. In known systems, the arrangement of evaporating element and heating element is such that initially the entire quantity of air flows through the evaporating element and then depending on the heating requirement a corresponding part of the cooled quantity of air is directed through the heating element and thus warmed up. The known systems have several disadvantages, in particular with respect to the constructional volume and the energy requirement. In order to avoid these disadvantages, it is therefore proposed to arrange the heating element and the evaporating element in parallel with respect to the air flow and to provide means for influencing the partial air flows carried respectively through the heating element and the evaporating element. At the same time, the means for influencing the respective air flows are to be connected to one another in such a way that a change in the air flow rate through the heating element results in an opposing change in the air flow rate through the evaporating element.
