<p>The automobile automatic transmission has a belt drive coupling driving and driven discs, each of which comprises a pair of plates. The latter are moved axially towards and away from one another via a hydraulic control, to alter the radius around which the belt is passed. The hydraulic control has a setting cylinder associated with each pair of plates, a pair of delay valves and a pressure regulating valve providing hydraulic operating fluid at a gradually increasing pressure when the input pressure is above a given value. The two different pressure demands are provided by a set of pressure control valves, solenoid controlled. - The constant pressure of the reversing gear drive and the variable pressure of the cone drives are derived from the same fluid pump line.
