PURPOSE:To obtain a flash discharge tube with a long life, high reliability, and a light flux maintenance factor of 90% or more at an on/off life of a million times by forming a negative electrode in a structure suitable to both the cold cathode discharge and hot cathode discharge and decompressing the sealed Xe gas pressure with an optimum range as the output of the flash discharge tube is increased. CONSTITUTION:The optimum range of the cross section A of a negative electrode satisfying a light flux maintenance factor allowance limit of 93% at an on/off life of 2 million times of a flash discharge tube is set to A=2.6-9.6mm.<2> at an output of 20 joules, A=3.9-17.5mm.<2> at an output of 35 joules, A=12-91mm.<2> at an output of 106 joules, and A=28-320mm.<2> at an output of 500 joules. The optimum range of the Xe gas seal pressure P satisfying a light flux maintenance factor allowance limit of 93% at an on/off life of 2 million times is set to P= 190-370 Torr at an output of 35 joules, P=140-300 Torr at an output of 106 joules, and P=110-250 Torr at an output of 500 joules. |
