The invention relates to a method and a circuit arrangement to carry out the method for monitoring a data transmission system comprising a central station, a number of fixed stations and a number of mobile transceiver stations which are in radio contact with the fixed stations, where the central and fixed stations are connected via a four-wire line to transmit the data signals in outward and return directions, along with the data sync, radio sync and monitoring signals. With the method according to the invention, the operational capacity of the entire transmission path is monitored cyclically, centrally and independently from the data flow, at little additional expense.
