Process and plant provide a pressure above 40,000 atmos. at a temp. of min. 1300 deg. C. These pressures and temps. are achieved by two chemical reactions with the use of presses and electric current. The reactions are:- (a) the thermite reaction, Fe2O3 + 2Al = Al2O3 + 2Fe; and (b) AgNO3 + 3Mg = 3MgO + Ag + 1/2N2, providing an inert vector gas. - Chemical energy is as a replacement for complicated mechanical equipment. The pref. appts. comprises a metal reactor drum surrounded by a supporting container made of reinforced concrete.(0/1)
