A zone of the refractory lining contg. one or more gas introduction elements is delimited, pref. by a metal casing, and a non-oxidising agent is injected into the zone. - The method is useful for protecting the part of the lining of a metallurgical vessel, e.g. a converter, near submerged tuyeres or porous bricks for blowing a refining gas, e.g. oxygen, or a stirring gas, e.g. argon. Carbon contained in this part of the refractory lining is prevented from contacting and being burned off by the blowing gas.(0/0)
