The manufacture of piston rings for internal-combustion engines comprises the operation of producing a ring blank (10), of which the diameter of the external surface and the diameter of the internal surface are respectively greater and less than those of the finished ring. A slit is cut in the ring blank in order to form two free ends (15) and the blank (10) is kept in the closed position by applying a force to each of the free ends (15) of the blank (10). A ring blank (10) is then clamped in the closed position and machined in such a manner that its internal and external peripheral surfaces are circular. This enables a ring to be produced which corresponds very closely to the required shape and which consequently, in use, ensures good sealing between the cylinder and the piston of an internal-combustion engine. <IMAGE>
