A branch fitting for providing access to the interior of a pipe has a body portion having a semi-cylindrical surface for sealably engaging a pipe, and which can be clamped in position. First and second cylindrical barrel portions extend from the body portion in opposite directions in the plane of the axis of the pipe. The first barrel contains a cutter for providing an opening in the pipe which provides access between the second barrel and the pipe interior. An operating member is positioned in the second barrel which can be moved from the barrel into the pipe. - The appts. of the invention enables a pig to be inserted into a pipe by a single piece of equipment and thus without the need of assembling and disassembling equipment between a cutting and an insertion operation.
