PURPOSE:To simplify the construction of a solid-state image pickup element and to improve the reliability, by forming a gate electrode with a metal and forming a photo shielding metallic layer at the same time in the process forming the gate electrode. CONSTITUTION:A metallic electrode 13 and a light shield metallic layer 14 are arranged along the arranging direction of each photo detecting region 2 at a part adjacent to both sides. Further, the one metallic layer 14 is prolonged from the electrode 13 and arranged so as to cover incorporatedly the surrounding adjacent to each diffusion region 5. On the other hand, a wiring metal 8 and a metallic contact 9 insulated with an insulator 7 made of a phosphorus glass from the electrode 13 and the metallic layer 14 and formed with Al or the like cover entirely the region 5, are arranged in a line so as to cover completely the photo detecting regions with the metal 8. |
