NEW MATERIAL:An antibiotic KA-5685 shown by the formula or its salt. Having the following physical and chemical properties. Appearance: white powder. Molecular formula: C21H40N4O12. Elemental analysis(%): C 43.51, H 7.58, N 9.44. Specific rotatory power: [alpha]D<26>=+124 deg.(c=0.34, H2O). Easily soluble in water, slightly soluble in methanol, or ethanol, insoluble in acetone, chloroform, ethyl acetate, ether, etc. Positive in ninhydrin, and Rydon Smith reaction, negative in Sakaguchi reaction, maltol reaction, etc. USE:An antimicrobial agent. PROCESS:A strain such as Saccharopolyspora hirsuta (ATCC No.27875), etc. beloging to the genus Saccharopolyspora, capable of producing KA-5685, is cultivated preferably by submerged culture method under aerobic conditions at 25- 30 deg.C for 2-6 days. |
