PURPOSE:To form a soot-form rod of a constant outside diameter and a uniform density by separately heating the rod from its side face while being pulled up in the production of the soot form glass rod by a flame hydrolysis method. CONSTITUTION:At the time of producing a soot form glass rod 4 by spouting hydrogen, oxygen an compounds such as Si, Ge, P, B, etc. to be glass raw materials from and oxyhydrogen burner 1 to burn, allowing the soot form glass 2 mainly composed of the SiO2 formed through flame hydrolysis to be picked up and deposited on a revolving starting material 3 and growing the soot form glass body in its axial direction while pulling up, a separate oxyhydrogen burner 7 is installed in the position slightly apart from the end face of the rod 4 and the rod 4 is heated from its side face. |
