<p>For use in an electronic printing system having a serial impact printer and an electronic processor, apparatus is provided to reprogram the system each time a supply or accessory item is changed. The apparatus includes an active read-only memory chip mounted to a supply item, such as a print wheel provided in an easy load cartridge, a ribbon in a cartridge, etc. Apparatus is carried by the printer to connect the read-only memory chip to the processor upon attachment of the supply item onto the printer.</p> |
