PURPOSE:To improve the throughput, to avoid a reduction of the effective capacity of a medium and to reduce the load of software, by carrying out the processing to a defective sector within an optical disk processor and therefore eliminating the intervension of the software. CONSTITUTION:In case a hardware error of a device is generated during the writing of a sector #N, a microprocessor 3 senses the hardware error and searches the address of a written sector. Then an error correcting/detecting circuit 16 detects an error of the data written previously, and a defective flag is written to the original sector #N. Then the address of a substitute sector #M is searched, and the address of the sector #N and the write data to the sector #N are written to the data part of the sector #M. When the data of the sector #N is read out, the ID part on a medium is searched. Then the sector #N is decided defective when a defective flag 24 shown in the 3rd figure is detected by a defective flag detecting circuit 9 with the address of the sector #N. Thus a substitute sector is searched. Then the data is transferred 2 to an upper rank device 1 as the data of the sector #N from the sector #M. |
