NEW MATERIAL:An antitumor glycoproteinic substance having the following properties: White solid powder. Readily soluble in water and insoluble in organic solvents, e.g. methanol. An ampholytic electrolyte having an isoelectric point at 5.2pH. Positive to the color reactions such as the biuret reaction and cysteine-sulfuric acid reaction, etc. Average molecular weight: About 470000. USE:An antitumor agent. PROCESS:A concentrate of a broth of a scallop (including a broth or liquid obtained in obtaining an edible shellfish flesh by boiling or steaming or hot processing an edible part of a scallop with hot steam or hot liquid of an aqueous solvent, e.g. water or a saline solution, or a dried powder thereof is first dissolved in an aqueous solvent, and the undissolved substances are removed by the centrifugation, etc. The resultant aqueous solution is then desalted by the gel filtration or dialysis, etc. and then subjected to the anion exchange chromatography with a basic ion exchanger. The resultant fraction is further subjected to the fractionation treatment of molecular weight, e.g. vertical slab gel electrophoresis, to give the aimed antitumor glycoproteinic substance having about 470000mol.wt. EFFECT:A wide antitumor spectrum without the cytotoxicity and a remarkable tumor diminution effects by administration from different sites. |
