PURPOSE:A cosmetic, containing a polyglycerol ester of a fatty acid and polybasic acid and/or a salt thereof, and having improved skin safety, stable emulsifiability and good feeling of use. CONSTITUTION:A cosmetic containing 0.1-95wt% polyglycerol ester of a fatty acid and polybasic acid expressed by the formula (n is 2-20; R1-Rn+1 are fatty acid residue, polybasic acid residue or polybasic acid salt residue) and/ or a salt thereof. The HLB of the above-mentioned compound can be freely adjusted, and the compound is an ideal surfactant for cosmetics having good feeling of use with high compatibility with the skin. The compound is obtained by esterifying polyglycerol with a fatty acid, and esterifying the resultant ester of the fatty acid with a polybasic acid, and if necessary neutralizing the resultant ester with a basic substance to give a salt thereof. A cosmetic having a wide surface-activity is obtained by selecting the esterification or neutralization degree. |
