[Also in Division C5] The invention comprises salts of polyvalent metals and alkylsalicylic acids, which contain at least one alkyl group with more than 12 carbon atoms and of which more than 60% m. consists of acids containing an alkyl group in paraposition relative to the hydroxyl group, while at least part of the latter alkyl groups is attached with a quaternary carbon atom to the benzene nucleus. Calcium salts are exemplified. The compounds are prepared by alkylation of phenol, which may be carried out in two stages with different alkylating agents, conversion of the alkylphenols to alkyl-salicylic acids followed by salt formation. |
