PURPOSE:To prevent the formation of embrittled layers in a furnace wall from tuyeres to a furnace bottom part by blowing forcibly an inert gas such as N2 through the gaps among the bricks to the brick part in the lower part of the tuyeres. CONSTITUTION:The bricks in the side wall part of the hearth of a blast furnace consist of combinations of annular blocks 7 having a relatively large size and small-sized bricks 8. Cooling plates 9 are mounted to the blocks 7. Cooling water is flowed to the plates 9, and gaseous N2 is blown into the gaps among the small-sized brick masonry 8 through the plates 9. As a result, the gaseous N2 blown to the bricks 8 prevents the fall of gaseous Zn and K and suppresses the formation of the embritted layers 6 formed in the range of the furnace bottom part from the level of tuyeres 1. The effect of the gaseous N2 in this case is not always perfect but if such construction is incorporated, the position where the layers 6 are formed is confined to the inside of the furnace. |
