1298627 Monitoring the operation of engines VDO TACHOMETER WERKE ADOLF SCHINDLING GmbH 20 March 1970 13524/70 , Heading G4H A system for monitoring the operation of an aircraft engine comprises sensors 1 for monitoring parameters associated with the operation of the engine and for producing analogue or analogue and digital electrical output signals corresponding to the monitored parameters, devices 2 for normalizing these signals, a multiplex transmitter 3 and a multiplex receiver 6. The sensors measure temperatures, pressures &c. in the engine and their output signals are fed to the devices 2 which may be amplifiers or attenuators. The multiplex transmitter, which comprises a rotary solid state switch is scanned by clock pulses from a generator 8 and its analogue outputs are fed to an analogue-todigital converter 4. The digital outputs are fed to a matching circuit 5 connected to a multiplex receiver 6 by a single coaxial cable 9. Instruments 7 such as electroluminescent cells, luminous diodes or crystal cells using colour changes provide a persistent display of the values of the sensed parameters. In a modification the system includes a programme controlled computer to which tolerance limits for the sensed parameters are fed by a keyboard, punched cards or a punched tape. If the sensed parameters have values outside the tolerance limits an alarm is operated. In a further modification a central computer connected to a computer for each engine and auxiliary analogue to digital converters enable the system to continue to operate on failure of certain converters or engine computers. |
