PURPOSE:To decrease the coefficient of dynamic friction under any temp. conditions and to improve the traveling stability and wear resistance of the titled medium by using the derivative of perfluoroalkylthiol acid ester as the lubricant for the ferromagnetic metallic thin film type magnetic recording medium. CONSTITUTION:The lubricant contg. the derivative of perfluoroalkylthiol acid ester shown by the general formula is coated on the ferromagnetic metallic thin film formed on a nonmagnetic carrier. The derivative is obtained by esterifying perfluoroalkylcarboxylic acid which is solid at ordinary temp. with a mercaptan, the compd. decreases the m.p. and the lubricating effect can be extended over the low-temp. range, and the rust preventive effect can also be obtained by introducing a sulfur element. A straight-chain alkyl, a branched- chain alkyl, and aliphatic hydrocarbonic group such as an alkylene contg. a double bond, an alicyclic hydrocarbonic group, allyl, an aromatic hydrocarbonic group such as an alkylarbyl, etc., can be used as the R in formula I. Meanwhile, the number (n) of carbons in the perfluoroalkyl CnF2n+1- is preferably controlled to 5<=n<=12. |
