A device for separating sheets or sets of sheets of writing paper attached at the end to a carrier tape is characterised in that it cuts the sheets off (in a simple manner preferably through the carrier tape) in such a way that the attachment end remains on the carrier tape. Difficulties in detaching them from the carrier tape are thus reliably avoided. After cutting, the device can grip sets of sheets with interleaved carbon paper and separate them from the sheets of carbon paper at a blower station.
