A cleaning device for cleaning the barrel of a portable firearm comprises a cigar-shaped body which is equipped with a holder or handle and which possesses, at least on its cylindrical surface, an absorbent soft material consisting of a natural product, such as cellulose, or of plastic. The body, if appropriate impregnated with gun oil, is pushed or pulled through the barrel so as to bear closely against the latter.
