The invention relates to an artificial tooth for dental prostheses which is characterised in that it has a handling and fixing extension. The extension may be integrally formed with the artificial tooth or may be fixed to the latter. The extension is preferably arranged horizontally or vertically to the tooth base, projects orally or towards the cheeks from a lateral tooth side and is provided on its free end with means for fixing the tooth to a basic template or metal base. The invention also relates to a basic template or metal base for the production of dental prostheses using the artificial tooth according to the invention and provides for the basic template or metal base to be provided with a barrier of modelling clay or soft wax for pressing in and fixing the artificial tooth and its extension. The design, according to the invention, of the artificial tooth and of the basic template or metal base provide considerable simplification of the production of dental prostheses, specifically due to the greatly improved possibilities of handling and fixing artificial teeth effected by this design.
