In a vehicle seat, in particular for large-area vehicles, having a shell-type backrest (1) which has on the rear a backrest cladding (3) and a folding table (5) which is mounted with its rear edge (10) acting as a hinge on the backrest (1) and can be moved from a position of use aligned approximately horizontally into a position of non-use running approximately parallel to the backrest, provision is made for a hollow space (4) which accommodates the folding table (5) in its position of non-use to be constructed between the backrest (1) and the backrest cladding (3), the backrest cladding (3) having an opening (6) which allows the folding table to be pulled out. In this case, the folding table (5) is fitted with guide pins (11) which project over the side edges (12) and engage and are guided in groove openings (16) of guide rails (13) arranged on the end walls inside the hollow space (4). <IMAGE>
