In the method of X-ray tomography for representing a body section image, X-ray pulses generated by a radiation source penetrate the body to be examined in a predetermined manner and are converted into electrical signals by radiation detectors. The detector signals thus obtained are then evaluated by using electronic storage systems. To increase the signal/noise ratio of the detector signals without requiring a corresponding increase in the radiation dose rate, the invention provides for each X-ray pulse to be additionally amplitude- modulated or sampled. In particular, a modulation or sampling frequency within a range of between 5 kHz and 100 kHz can be selected.
