PURPOSE:To obtain material for a gas diffusion electrode excellent in durability by dispersedly mixing the partly graphitized carbon black powder with the electrically insulating continuous fine porous base material made of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). CONSTITUTION:Pastelike mixture made from a basic compound consisting of PTFE fine powder, partly graphitized carbon black powder and liquid lubricant is molded into a sheet shape or the like by means of compression, extrusion and rolling etc. Liquid lubricant is removed from a compact thus obtained by means of heating and extraction, then said compact is subjected to extension treatment at least in one direction. And said compact subjected to extention treatment undergoes heat treatment as required in order to obtain a finished product. The use of partly graphitized carbon black is effective in maintaining high conductivity while fully keeping the durability of a product and it is proferable as a condition for graphitization to hold the raw material carbon black powder at a temperature 1,200-2,500 deg.C for 5-60min. |
