MELT EXTRUDABLE ANHYDROUS VINYL ALCOHOL POLYMER COMPOSITION

The composition contains a plasticizer which is a hydroxyl-free water-insoluble organic material which is non-volatile at extrusion temperatures (about 230 DEG C) and has a solubility parameter of greater than (10 cal/cc)<1/2 >. Examples of such plasticizers include N-substituted fatty acid amides, aromatic sulphonamides, aryl phosphates or phosphites, sulphonated alkyl phenols and N-alkyl pyrrolidone. Extruded articles made from the compositions have good gas-barrier properties and are useful for packaging purposes.
