A device for the withdrawal and reinfusion of autologous blood from a patient, with a container which can be compressed in one direction and is relatively dimensionally stable transverse to this direction, for example a bellows (40). The bellows (40) has a suction connection (15) for drawing in blood from the patient, and a further connection (15') for the reinfusion of the blood situated in the bellows (40). In order to provide a device which is simple and easy for the surgeon to operate, and which keeps to a minimum any blood damage resulting from surfaces foreign to blood and from partial pressure, the bellows (40) can be returned from the compressed state into an extended state by means of the intrinsic elasticity of its material and/or by means of an external spring force (43) acting on its end faces. In addition, the suction connection (15) has a non-return valve (45) opening in the direction of admission, and the other connection (15') has a non-return valve (46) opening in the direction of discharge from the container. The non-return valve (46) is preferably a liquid non-return valve (48) permeable to air, but blocking the blood. <IMAGE>
