In a bimetallic switch which is constructed essentially from an elastic, live contact support (1), from two contacts (40, 41) of a spring (38) in the shape of an omega, and from a heating resistor which is matched to the bimetallic element (20) and whose one end is electrically connected to the bimetallic element (20), in order to simplify production, to reduce the material costs and to vary the trip characteristic of the contact support (1) more easily, [lacuna] is constructed with a longitudinal U-shaped recess (2) and is provided at its one end with an elastic projection (3), the one limb (44) of the omega-shaped spring (38) being matched to the end of the elastic projection (3), preferably between bounding teeth (11, 12), while the other limb (45) is fitted in an articulated manner into an opening (4), which is expediently constructed in the contact support (1) supporting the contact (40), and is provided with suitable prestressing; grooves (24, 25) which are provided at the end of the bimetallic element (20) fit into the opening (10) in the elastic projection (3) with little play.
