In a plant for recovering energy from exhaust gases from combustion devices, these gases are simultaneously fed for purification via a heat exchanger (20) to heat heating water or utility water and are fed from this to a flue gas scrubber (30) and passed to a conventional exhaust gas stack composed of a galvanised metal tube, the condensate withdrawn from the flue gas scrubber (30) being neutralised in a device (40), so that the purified and neutralised condensate can be fed as scrubbing liquid to the flue gas scrubber (30) and/or can be fed directly to an existing waste water system, without, as a result, producing any environmental damage. <IMAGE>
