An overpressure valve for a packaging container, in particular for a packaging bag made of flexible material, has a valve plate made of a first layer (4a) and of a second layer (4b). The first, relatively thick layer (4a) consists of an elastically compressible open-pore material and permanently covers an outflow opening (3). The second, relatively thin layer (4b) covers an opening (5) in the wall (W) of the packaging container only in the closed state of the valve (Figure 4 shows the opened state). This closed state is maintained by the elastic force of the first layer (4a). When the valve is open, gas passes into the atmosphere via the first layer (4a) corresponding to the arrows (9, 11, 12, 13). The valve is inexpensive to manufacture and has the advantage that it also acts as a filter which prevents the direct entry of atmospheric air into the packaging space. <IMAGE>
