A thermal flowmeter for determining the flow rate of a fluid in a measuring channel, having two temperature-dependent resistors which are fitted one behind the other in the flow direction on the measuring channel, form a first series circuit and, with two further resistors which form a second series circuit, form a bridge circuit. In order to detect the temperature difference between the resistors of the first series circuit, the current supplying the bridge circuit has the temperature-dependent resistors. The two resistors of the second series circuit are likewise constructed as temperature-dependent resistors which are fitted to the measuring channel in each case at the same height as the resistors of the first series circuit, in the flow direction of the fluid. The direction of the current in the first series circuit is opposite to the direction of the current in the second series circuit.
