Hydraulic appliance for the mechanical disintegration of rock, having a cylinder (1), in which a hydraulically actuable piston with a piston rod (3) is arranged so as to be longitudinally movable. Fastened to the free lower end of the piston rod (3) is a sliding wedge (18) which acts on thrust jaws (17) which are connected to a cylinder lower part (2) which are insertable into boreholes, laterally displaceable to a limited extent and releasably connected by means of reinforced head pieces (32) to the cylinder block or to a cylinder lower part (2) arranged releasably on this and which have a slope corresponding to the inclination of the sliding wedge (18). The thrust jaws (17) are suspended in the cylinder block or cylinder lower part (2) on diametrically arranged transverse bolts (10) and are fixed and centred elastically by means of spring elements (13, 24). To adjust the working piston and therefore the sliding wedge (18), the working cylinder can be preceded by a hydraulic control unit (35), by means of which the pressure medium serving for advancing the working piston can be introduced in a vibrating manner into the working cylinder on the side of the working piston facing away from the sliding wedge (18). A comparatively higher splitting capacity is thereby achieved, at the same time with the working piston being subjected to less pressure. <IMAGE>
