The supply of cigarettes to a packing machine usually takes place in containers (frame 11), in other words in batches. For the continuous supply of the packing machine, an uninterrupted flow of cigarettes (26) is formed, which is loaded on the upper side by a cigarette cover (27) in such a manner that the transport of a voluminous cigarette flow (26) can take place free of disturbance and uninterruptedly. The cigarette flow (26) is at the same time a store and buffer for compensating the delivery in batches of the cigarettes. <IMAGE>
