The invention relates to the use of an immersion spout according to Patent P 3149399 for pouring aluminium-killed steel melts with an aluminium content of > 0.010% in sizes of </= 130 mm under a casting powder layer in continuous casting moulds. By the use according to the invention, it is possible to dispense with oil lubrication and instead to use casting powder, with the result that the surface quality is substantially improved.
