PURPOSE:To improve the cross rolling of a thick plate only by the longitudinal rolling of a slab and the quality of the thick plate product by holding upper and lower sleeve rolls with upper and lower holding beams in a way as to make the bearing boxes of the sleeve rolls slidable laterally. CONSTITUTION:The bearing boxes 5a, 6a of upper and lower splined shafts are moved vertically and respectively a pair of upper and lower sleeve rolls 1, 2, 3, 4 are moved vertically with the shafts 5, 6 and upper and lower holding beams 10, 11 so that the gap of the rolls 1, 2 on the left side and the gap of the rolls 3, 4 on the right side attain required values. The rolls 1, 2 on the left side are positioned to the central part of a material S to be rolled and the material is rolled with said rolls. Screw shafts 12 are rotated to move the rolls 1, 2 in a left direction and the rolls 3, 4 on the right side to the right. The material S is rolled after the roll gaps on the right and left are set at prescribed values. The similar operations are repeated and the 1st stage of rolling over the entire width of the material S is accomplished. |
