<p>Improvement in processes for digesting wood chips to improve the efficiency of the process and the effective utilization of heat, the process consisting in cooking the chips under pressure in a digester at relatively high temperatures to produce cooked chips and a hot black liquor, discharging or displacing the hot black liquor from the digester for reuse in subsequent treatment cycles. The improvement comprising the step of establishing a blanket of air over the mass of cooked chips in said digester at sufficient pressure to discharge the mass of cooked chips from said digester.</p> |
