In order to prepare sulphuric acid or pure sulphur dioxide, hot SO2-containing roasting or combustion gases are completely purified by removing dust and other impurities in a wet gas purification plant comprising three process steps: in the first process step, the hot crude gas is cooled in a scrubber (2) by means of circulating, dilute, hot sulphuric acid and is almost saturated with steam, in the second process step, the gas from the first process step is cooled down even further in a packed scrubbing tower (4) or gas condenser and the steam contained in the gas is condensed, in the third process step, the gas is subjected to wet electrostatic precipitation (6). In this process, the almost steam-saturated gas from the first process step is treated, before undergoing the second process step, with injected (12) dilute sulphuric acid or water, either of which is colder with respect to the saturation temperature. <IMAGE> |
