PURPOSE:To secure favorable acceleration while improving acceleration responsiveness, by controlling a transmission gear ratio for shift-down so as to make an input engine speed go up as far as the specified value at the time of sudden acceleration and, after the rise, fixing the transmission gear ratio till the input engine speed comes to the intrinsic speed. CONSTITUTION:A controller bearing the above caption is provided with a transmission gear ratio controlling device 109 which controls a transmission gear ratio of the continuously variable transmission mechanism 50 installed in an engine driving system 6 so as to become the desired value TNP that is set so as to cause the input engine speed NP to go up according to an increase in accelerator opening of an engine 1 in advance. In this case, there is provided with an accelerating time detecting device 110 which detects sudden accelerating time of the engine 1 with a sudden open of the accelerator opening, whereby the transmission gear ratio is controlled by an accelerating time gear shifting device 111 at the time of detecting the sudden acceleration. That is to say, with this device 111, at the time of sudden acceleration, the transmission gear ratio is controlled for shift-down till the input engine speed NP goes up to the temporary desired value TNPB lower than the desired value TNP and, after going up to this TNPB, the transmission gear ratio is made so as to be fixed and held till the NP reaches the TNP. |
