A noise-damping felt is mfd. by preparing in situ a synthetic resin which serves as binder for a fibrous material (I), by reacting the two components of the resin where >=1 is a soln., dispersion or emulsion. (I) is pref. short-fibrous material e.g., spinning waste, and is impregnated with a first component which is a soln., dispersion or emulsion, and is adapted to react with an aldehyde-gp. thereby forming a three-dimensionally crosslinked resin. The second component is then added e.g., in form of a vapour thereby causing reaction, pref. at room temp., in opt. presence of a catalyst, accelerator or inhibitor; and the whole is finally passed, as a so-obtd. impregnated fibrous mat, through a polymsn. oven to give a self-supporting mat. Advantages include avoidance of waste. Reacting occurs at relatively low temp. thereby eliminating risk of damage to fibres.
|
