1279623 Bearings ROLLS-ROYCE Ltd 23 June 1969 [27 June 1968] 30658/68 Heading F2A [Also in Division C7] Bearings or bearing elements are produced by winding a reinforcing fibre on to a former and simultaneously electro-coating the fibre being wound; the coating being of metal with either a lubricant material or pores for carrying lubricant dispersed therein. The electrolyte may contain a fine dispersion of particles for co-deposition; the particles being of solid lubricant, e.g. molybdenum disulphide, tungsten disulphide or PTFE; or metal which is subsequently diffused into the matrix by heat treatment to form an alloy. The filament used may be of steel, carbon or ceramic and may be of flat tape form. The matrix material may be of platinum, copper, silver, nickel, lead, copper/tin, lead/tin or copper/ platinum. As shown electrolyte containing dispersed particles is circulated through cell 10 by means of pump 14, entering the cell via pipe 15; the cell including a filter 12, counter-electrode 22 and means for rotating a former 17 and for winding a filament thereabout during electrodeposition. The bearing elements may be journal bearings or cages or other parts of rolling bearings. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,139,817. |
