1373229 Dibenzothiophene derivatives GULF OIL CANADA Ltd 21 Dec 1971 [22 Dec 1970] 59253/71 Heading C2C [Also in Division C3] Dibenzothiophene-2-sulphonyl chloride-8-sulphonic acid dihydrate is prepared by reacting dibenzothiophene - 2 - sulphonyl chloride with SO 3 in a liquid chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent. The product may be (1) reacted in a solvent under reflux with thionyl chloride or bromide to give dibenzothiophene 2,8-disulphonyl chloride or bromide (2) or hydrolysed under basic conditions to form dibenzothiophene 2,8-disulphonic acid which on refluxing with thionyl bromide gives dibenzothiophene-2,8- disulphonyl bromide. Alternatively dibenzothiophene - 2,8 - disulphonyl chloride and bromide may be prepared by reacting dibenzothiophene in liquid SO 2 with excess SO 3 to form dibenzothiophene-2,8-disulphonic acid and reacting the acid in a solvent under reflux with thionyl chloride or bromide to form the corresponding dibenzothiophene - 2,8 - disulphonyl halide. |
