[Also in Division C3] The invention comprises compounds of the formula wherein R1 and R11 with the carbonyl group and the nitrogen atom constitute a heterocyclic ring system and R is an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or aromatic group. The compounds may be prepared by reacting sulphur dichloride with a mercaptan to form the corresponding dithiochloride which is then reacted with the amide of the desired heterocyclic structure, preferably in the presence of an amine. The invention also comprises compounds of the formula R2NH.CO.NH.SSR, wherein R2 is arylthio, alkylthio, cycloalkylthio, aryldithio alkyldithio, cycloalkyldithio, aryl, alkyl or cycloalkyl and R is aryl, cycloalkyl, or alkyl. These compounds may be prepared in a similar way to the heterocyclic compounds starting from the corresponding urea. The compounds inhibit the premature vulcanization of diene rubbers.
