The invention comprises azo pigments of the formula wherein R 1 represents an aromatic residue; R 2 is a naphthalene residue in which the azo hydroxy and -CO- groups are in the 1, 2 and 3 position respectively; R 3 represents an arylene residue; X represents a direct bond or a -CO- group-when X is -CO-, R 4 is alkyl or aryl, and when X is a direct bond R 4 is carbamide, acylamino, acyl or carbalkoxyalkyl.
