MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM AND ITS PRODUCTION

PURPOSE:To provide a magnetic recording medium having excellent running quality by depositing oligomers in chains on the surface of a polymer molding substrate on the side disposed with a magnetic layer. CONSTITUTION:A nonmagnetic layer 2 is provided on a substrate 1, and a ferromagnetic layer 3 is disposed thereon. Groups of oligomers 4 arranged in chains are formed thereon. The magnetic layer may be formed by any of sputtering, ion plating and vacuum deposition (the same holds true of the formation of the nonmagnetic layer); the essential requirement is to generate beforehand flaws mechanically on at least the surface of the substrate on the side to be formed with the magnetic layer. The oligomers having 0.6mum average grain size are deposited in 100-150 chains in the longitudinal direction of the tape.
