The electromagnet proper 1 is integral with two identical plates 2 arranged one behind the other, each containing an elliptic arc-shaped slot 3. This slot extends over a part of the plates 2 which passes beyond 1. It is traversed by a spindle 4 integral with flanges 5 fixed to the lifting member 6. When a flat piece such as 7 is raised, care having been taken deliberately to arrange 1 off-centred from the bottom end 3b of the slot 3 turned towards the edge adjacent to this piece, 4 moves in 3 and gradually gets to 3a thus enabling 4 to reach an almost vertical position gently, as is often required. <IMAGE>
