Composite cylinder liner for marine IC engine

The liner consists of an outer layer of a material of high strength and ductility and an inner layer of a special cast iron with high wear and seizure resistance, the two layers being fusion welded together at their interface. The outer layer pref. consists of a spheroidal graphite cast iron, a compacted vermicular graphite cast iron or a cast steel with spheroidal graphite. An intermediate layer of a cast iron may be provided between the two layers. The cylinder liner is esp. useful for ships engines.
